Review: Smok RPM40

Smok RPM40 Review

Manufacturing Quality - Is the RPM40 better than the Nord?

Smok's first in its vape pod series features a TFT LCD screen that displays all the vaping information you'll need, including watt and voltage levels, coil resistance, puff count, and battery levels.

The Smok RPM40 features a sleek, cuboid shape adorned with carbon fiber accents or resin-like materials that feel pleasant to the touch.

This will surely be a hit for vapers who love carbon fiber and resin designs. This vape pod is smooth to hold with its linear shape and tactile rectangular firing button that exudes quality with every click. Additionally, there are two buttons below the screen that allow you to easily adjust your wattage and voltage.

If the design language looks familiar, you probably remember the Smok Cuboid box mod launched several years ago. This is not a bad homage by any degree, the sleek profile the Smok RPM40 has is a classic and clean look. We definitely prefer it over the ultra-ornate designs some other vape pods have.

The Smok RPM40 has a glossy black mouthpiece with a wide opening reminiscent of a classic box mod's drip tip, which helps achieve a substantial draw for that satisfying throat hit.

The mouthpiece is part of the 4.3ml capacity RPM Standard and 4.5ml capacity RPM Nord pod (depending on the installed coil) that fit snugly into the device's body. There are no issues with pulling the pod out and re-inserting it into the body; they fit perfectly and sit flush with each other.

There are currently eight colors available for the Smok RPM40 vape pod: Bright Black, Prism Chrome, Purple Red, Prism Gold, Prism Rainbow, White, Orange, and Green. Personally, we absolutely love the White colorway with its sophisticated, clean look and resin-like paint splatter on the sides.

Smok has nailed the color options offered for this version of the Smok RPM40 vape pod; there will be a colorway to suit your style.

Flavor Quality - How good is the vapor from the RPM40?

The Smok RPM40 includes the 4.3ml capacity RPM Standard pod with a pre-installed RPM Mesh 0.4 coil, and a 4.5ml capacity RPM Nord pod with a Nord DC 0.6 coil, both recommended for use at 25 watts power output.

The Nord DC 0.6 coil delivers a cleaner, more direct flavor and nicotine hit at the expense of less vapor production, while the RPM Mesh 0.4 coil produces more flavor with a slightly muted flavor and nicotine hit.

We personally prefer the vapor dynamics offered by the Nord DC 0.6 coil at 25 watts; it seems like a perfect companion delivering satisfying flavor and nicotine hits throughout the day. We used 50/50 VG-PG e-liquid and noticed no leaking issues; vapor and flavor were consistently delivered throughout our five-day test period.

The Smok RPM 40 can also be used with the following RPM coils:

  • RPM Mesh Coil 0.4ohm
  • RPM Triple Coil 0.6ohm
  • RPM Quartz Coil 1.2ohm
  • RPM SC Coil 1.0ohm
  • RPM RBA (coming soon)

With the wide variety and availability of these coils offered for the Smok RPM40, it's easier than ever to get your preferred vaping experience. Be sure to try all the available coils so you can be sure of your preferred Smok RPM40 vaping experience.

Power Flexibility - 40 Watts of Power in a Pod-Vape

The Smok RPM 40 offers variable wattage between 1-40 watts power output. The maximum wattage is rarely needed. We found 20-25 watts to be the sweet spot for getting our preferred flavor, vapor thickness, and vapor temperature in the pods we tested.

While this may be different for you, the beauty of the Smok RPM 40 is that it gives you the option to fine-tune to your preferred power output. The new IQ-R chip provides a lightning-fast firing time of 0.001 seconds, so every time you press that fire button, you'll get an instant firing response that never disappoints.

When using the SMOK RPM40 at the 20-25 watt power range, the battery life easily lasts throughout the entire day. And if you're the type who prefers to vape at the maximum output of 40 watts, the Smok RPM40 only takes about two hours to charge the battery from zero to 100%, so it will be easy to charge the device throughout the day.

Ease of Use - Is the RPM40 still easy to use?

Smok has always been known for producing vape pods that are easily accessible for all types of vapers, with simplicity and ease of use that you can't compare with most vape pods available on the market today. This trend continues with the Smok RPM40.

Five clicks of the firing button turn it on, and the same amount of clicks turn it off. The wattage adjustment buttons below the TFT LCD screen allow you to instantly adjust the device's power output so that there's no problem trying to achieve your perfect vaping experience.

Refilling the pod with more e-liquid is as easy as pulling the pod from the body, pulling the rubber stopper on the side of the pod, adding more e-liquid, closing the rubber stopper, and snapping the pod back into the body. Smok has always made devices that are easy to use even without taking the time to read the manual, and it's no different here.
